April 25, 2018 - You get it Grandma

Hey everyone how are you doing? This week was fantastic, there were changes in the mission, but Elder Tanner and I were not affected by that, so I will be finishing my mission here in Los Robles and Elder Tanner will be my last companion! But, it was a great week, Carmen got confirmed a member of the church, we found some great new people to teach, and an old grandma swore at us and called us her "beautiful young men", Overall it was awesome!

So lets start off with the week! On Sunday Carmen was confirmed a member of the church and it was a really powerful experience. Bishop confirmed her and promised her the blessing of seeing her family in the church one day if she was loyal and faithful to the covenant she had made, and let me say the Spirit really testified of that one. Carmen has a difficult family situation, and the promise from Bishop that she would see her family with her in the temple was strong, I do not like to cry, but the Spirit in the room was so strong taht I could not help but shed a few tears. It was a great Sunday! As well this last weekend we had an Open Chapel activity in the Las Araucarias ward. I was in the baptismal font with Elder Magadan, and while we were in there we got to teach about the importance of baptism. One lady came through and was super nice and had some great questions for us, and we answered her the best that we could, but the best answer she got was from the Spirit. As we testified of the Atoning power of that comes through baptism and the remission of sins, the room literally warmed with the influence of the Spirit. She asked how she could learn more, so we wrote down her informaciĆ³n and referred her to the Elders in her ward! Miracles!
Love the mission, I am so grateful to be out serving the Lord. The Book of Mormon is the word of God. He who says otherwise has not become humbled enough to read it with an open heart and mind and has not become meek enough to ask the Lord if it is true. It is great that the scriptures can teach us doctrine, but if we do not ask the Lord in prayer if something is His or is true, we did not really understand the doctrine that we read in the scriptures. So, I would like to invited everyone to read the Book of Mormon! Love you all have a great week!

Love,
Elder Tilghman

April 18, 2018 - Drunk Dog

Hello everyone this week has been a great week, we just played paintball with another zone today for PDay and it was awesome. I am sweaty, my hair is green with paint and our stomachs are full wih the burgers that we just ate, life could not get much better!
Ok so there is some spiritual stuff this week in the email, so i think I will write all of the funny stuff first, that way I do not kill the spirit too hard. So on Saturday me and the homie Elder Tanner were outside of an apartment waiting for a lady to open teh door for an appointment that we had with her. As we were waiting, there was a dog that was trying to escape from the house next door, so he wedged himself through the gate and almost got out, but then he couldnt move so he was just stuck hanging there like 2 feet off the ground. He started to bark and wiggle, and then his owners showed up to the house. they got super mad at the dog and yelled at it and said "Stop trying to leave, you are drunk!!!!" Once again, alcohol and drugs are bad for everyone kids. The other day we were in the street and our bishop drove by us, rolled down his window and in perfect English yelled, "Hey my homedogs, get in my car!" Atta boy bishop!
This past week was really awesome as well for us personally and for the zone Las Araucarias. Carmen was baptized on Sunday! It was an awesome baptismal service, the spirit was relaly strong, and she will get confirmed a member of the church this Sunday in Church, I am super excited for her and for her family! As well last week we met a new famiy as we were searching for their mom. Their mom is a less active member who has not been to church in 20 years, so we stopped by to visit her, and we went inside to teach her family as well. She has two sons named Sebastian and Mauricio, and they are super dope! they love the message that we share and are super ready to change and come closer to Christ, and as well they both have dope motocicletas, all in al, they are dope. And yesterday we had Zone Conference and my companion and I gave a training about asking good questions, and as part of our training we showed a video from Napolean Dynamite and a bad question he makes. Life goal completed: Show a dumb movie clip in a spiritual meeting.
Love the mission, everything is going great, hope you are algood, we will see you next week!

Love,

April 11, 2018 - Wheres Waldo? Probably around the corner with a gun

Hey guys how are you all doing? This week has been great, it has been off the wall, it has been dope, overall it was a great week this last week!
Ok so lets talk about the people. So last week my comp and I started to find a ton of new people to go out an teach and we found some really cool people. On Sunday we went and passed by a kid we had contacted a week ago to see and if we could teach his family, they all let us in and we ended up not teaching one, but two families at the same time! We were able to share with 8 people about the Restoration of the Gospel, and the Spirit was super strong in the room as we were testifying about the Book of Mormon in our lesson, it was amazing! As we were leaving, they asked us to come and talk to even more of their familiy members this next Sunday as well, so we are hoping that turns about to be good! Last week as well we started to talk to a flaite guy named Waldo. He is super gangster but he likes us so he let us come in and talk to him and his mom and we shared a short message with them. The other day we saw Waldo in the street on his bicycle and he pulled over to talk with us. We asked him where he was going on his bike and he said "Oh, well there were a bunch of people shooting each other around the corner last night, all of the drunks. Actually wait for me right here, I am about to go and kill one and then I will come back." And he rode away on his bike with his pistol sticking out of this back pocket. So that answers the life long question about Wheres Waldo. You can find him in the Chilean national prision.
Another funny story! So yesterday we went and taught our friend Fabian a little more about the gospel and in the lesson he stopped us to tell a story about the guys who were robbing his house the other day. He said we dont have to worry about the robbers because whenever they come to his house his uncle just goes outside with a massive 2 by 4 and beats them to a pulp! Who knew my mission would be more exciting than a Fast and Furious movie?
Love the mission, it is going great, every day I find more love for the work and the people that I am working with. Love my comp, Elder Tanner, and I love our missionaries, love the Lord and I love the Gospel. Have a great week everyone!

April 4, 2018 - Elder Tilghman 007

So once more this week was awesome! General Conference was this past weekend and I am super grateful for all of the revelation/guidance/Spirit that I was able to feel from the leaders of the Church. I am sure my Argentinan companions lost their minds when there heard there would be another temple in Argentina, shoutout to Topalda and Bellido if they are reading this right now. Other than that this week was good as well for the work that we were able to do as well, and we successfully and safely passed another Purge Day down here in Santiago!
Okie dokie lets start with the people. So Elder Tanner and I have been talking and praying and we feel that we need to let some people go that we are teaching, they are great but have not been in the process of wanting to change and progress, so this week we are hoping to find a ton of people to talk to and share the message of the Restoration with! Actually we had a great experience with that yesterday. We were in the street talking with people in front of a giant plaza in our sector and two Haitians came running over to talk to us. I recognized one as someone I had talked to months ago, but we lost contact and he and his friend seemed so happy so see us. In the little Spanish they could talk they explained to us that Jimmy (the guy I knew) just had his cousin Vladmir (the other dude) move here from Haiti, and it turns out that the homie Vladmir is a member from 8 years ago in Haiti! So they were both super excited to see us, we talked to them and shared the Gospel and then invited them to a spanish class that we give in our chapels on Thursdays, so we will see them both and their families tommorrow!!!! That was pretty dope, it helped our faith alot in that there are miracles when we work to find more people. As well we have been starting to teach a new lady named Moraimah, and we invited her to view the conference on Sunday, we went to get her but she was not there, so we were pretty sad. Ten minutes after conference starts, Moraimah showed up and sat and watched the entire conference, and she loved it it was awesome!!!! We are super stoked for her as well, so we will see how she progresses.
Ok so funny moment of the week. On Monday I was with Elder Vargas on divisions in his sector and we were contacting a street and we decided to go and talk to a man who was standing out on his porch drinking juice. He got super scared, but like deathly pale as we came over and he shut his gate and asked us "What do you spies want with me and my house" The homie thought we were spies from the Church sent to come and interrogate him and dissect his innards hahahahahah. We ended up talking to him and sharing with him and as we were leaving he told us to take care on our mission to go and conquer the world, hence the name Elder Tilghman 007. Gang gang.
Love the misson, you should all go and watch Elder Bednars address from the saturday session of conference, it was great, I definitely felt terrible during that talk because I realized I am super prideful, pretty much the opposite of meekness, so I am supre grateful for that council that he gave us! Hope yall have a great week, see you soon!

Love,
Elder Tilghman
